I usually do my New Years resolutions/goals on my bday so I'll be working on that & popping in the studio to make myself a little birthday present! While searching for some resolution inspiration I stumbled upon this....

It really spoke to me....how often our perceptions of our selves hold us back. Time to focus on who I am & who I want to be!! Not sure who that good girl really is...but it certainly is time to find out!!

DIY Did Try

Hello my darlings! As you may remember I've been wasting waaaayyyyy tooo many hours over on Pinterest *GASP* In particular I am stuck on the DIY pins!! I decided it was time to give some of them a try... I realized I had pinned a few different versions of the recycled Tshirt scarf/necklace so that is first up!

My version of trendy t shirt scarf/necklace. Recycled T & vintage lace!

I pulled out The Boys Goodwill pile & found this pretty much unworn turtleneck which might have paid $5 for 2 yrs ago. Perfect!!!

First cut off the bottom hem...

Next start cutting 1"ish strips of fabric

I would say this is a relatively easy peasy project...if of course you can cut a straight line ...which I can't.

Poor little misshapen strips :(

Last but not least gather the strips (I gathered them where the seam was) & wrap them with a strip of the fabric or something contrasting (I used vintage lace) & knot the lace & then poked the ends back through so they didn't show.

For you very discerning readers...YES...there are 2 different fabrics pictured. I ended up making one for Mr. Good Girls daughter & one for myself (which I ended up gifting to the Revamper. 2 Christmas presents that cost me...NADA! Unless you count my precious time in which case they were each around $50 ;)

Taaaa daaaa :)

One thing I will note...the other tutorials I've read have mostly said they used their husbands or a mens shirt...I used my kiddos child sz Med & it was plenty big enough. I guess if you used a bigger shirt you would be able to wrap it around your neck more than once but I am of the variety of people that get extremely claustrophobic when things are wrapped noose like around my neck so I'm sticking with smaller ;)

We used this recipe by Alton Brown which was simple enough. I am a terrible baker & not such a great direction follower ... my cookies always come out dry but we've found that if you add a piece of bread to the cookie jar it moistens the cookies right up!

I had an amazing trunk show Sunday afternoon & the shop got almost wiped out! Spending the day in the studio today trying to get it restocked a bit for my last minute shoppers!

These are soo yummy, healthy & easy to make

(the hostess made some Sunday for my trunk show!)!

Ingredients: Mozzarella balls marinated in oil, fresh basil, cherry tomatoes.

Fold & stack the basil on top of the cheese for the wings & then place a mater on top & secure with a toothpick....voila! Drizzle the platter with the leftover oil from the mozzarella for a pretty presentation...then stuff your face!

These past few weeks have been pretty mentally & physically brutal...I won't go into too much detail but when a certain Good Girl is trying to quit smoking (it's been 7 days cigarette free!!!) while soo much drama is going on & it's topped off with her parents dog being killed in a hit & run right before she heads out to her trunk show & she's dealing with her son locked in his room sobbing uncontrollably because of the now deceased dog ...well...*sigh* ...My brain hurts...My heart is sad...My body hurts as I fight off the flu & My entire being just wants a puff of a cigarette & a nap...

BUT I am staying strong! Today is hereby declared "ADORE YOURSELF" day! So go ahead & pamper yourself! Take a 2 hour long nap...get a pedicure... create just for the sheer joy of creating! Bake some yummy cookies & eat them all yourself before the kids come home :)

My family flew down to Tampa to spend it with my brother & sister in law. We celebrated by giving thanks the old fashioned way....shooting guns at the gun range...lol! My first time ever...I was terrified! I suppose this year is about overcoming my fears so it was very freeing (in a #terrifiyingadrenalinepumping sort of way!)!

Hello my lovelies! What have you been up to this week?? I've been locked away in the studio trying to get ready for the holiday season but I've found a new way to procrastinate... Pinterest ... I keep finding soo many fun things I'm inspired to make, cook & buy!! ( If you want to hit me up over there click here) Facebook is a close second time waster for me but I'm addicted! While stalking *cough* perusing FB I came across a photoshoot & one of the models was wearing one my Pearls of Wisdom necklaces!

Turns out a dear sweet model/photographer friend was in a photoshoot for Marie Cordella's clothing line (love love love her!!) & she wore the necklace of mine that she owned & it ended up making it front & center in the shoot! Thank you Good Girls Studio, Inc. for my amazing wedding glam! The bottom amethyst broach and bow-shaped pin were my grandmother's, passed down to me from my mother. I was so proud to wear them in this way.

Just a comment about the versatility of this jewelry: I originally thought I'd wear this as a hairpiece, but my dressmaker never finished and I had to rethink the entire ensemble and buy a wedding dress the morning of! When I held this up to the waistline of my simple but elegant dress, it changed the entire look and I fell in love. :) ~Jessica

Like all of a sudden I'm looking down on the world, on my life...from this alter universe where I can't wipe this dumbfounded grin off my face & I can't stop smiling :) :) :)

The world is different...or more literally ...my view has changed...& I am forever changed & better for it!! ahhhhh....peace :) & while I am still crazy busy (& getting busier & crazier as I type this!) I am at rest in my soul... Thank you Lord!

Hard Headed Woman

Hello my lovelies! Long time no talk! I was crazy busy this holiday season! Hope you all had a wonderful time spent with family & friends!

...I've been doing a lot of pondering as I plan out this new year. Thinking about what I can do differently to be more consistent, what is a reoccurring theme in my life that I can change for the better... A friend recently told me that if the same scenario keeps happening in one's life that they want to fix, the place to look first is at yourself.

How am I contributing to this outcome?

That line of thinking led me to more pondering (I like that word a lot better than obsessing...lol) about my relationships...particularly with men (shocker!). I remembered how one of my ex-boyfriends used to say my head was full of rocks because I was SO HARD HEADED!! (I'm sure he meant that in the nicest way possible...hahaha)

But then a lightbulb went on in my head this morning as it occurred to me he was right! & you know what???

It is true :)
& ... it is a blessing
(more often than a curse)!

How else would I be strong enough to run my own business, raise a boy (who is as sarcastic as me) on my own, take on another full time job & live this crazy life to the fullest if I wasn't so hard headed & determined!!

How would I be able to work so hard, & love what I do so fully & take ridiculous chances & trust & trust & trust that I am using the talent that God blessed me with if I was meek & mild & wishy washy ... head full of rocks indeed ;)

I think the next time someone tells me I'm stubborn & hard headed I'll just smile at them knowingly & hand them one of my business cards.
Good Girls always get the last smirk ;)

I have lots to be grateful for this year :) So without further ado...

Dear 2010,

*Thank you for the opportunity to learn the same lessons not once but twice & sometimes three x's because I am so hard headed! *Thank you for the opportunity to learn patience by making me do the same thing over & over again when I can't get it right the first (or second or third) time! *Thank you for teaching me how to let go (even when you had to pry it from my clinched fist)! *Thank you for giving me amazing friends to pick me up when I'm on the ground & throwing a temper tantrum! *Thank you for teaching my friends patience as they dealt with my same BS over & over (& over) again! *Thank you for my friends & family who are gentle & kind enough to shine up the good girls halo & set her back on the right path! & Thank you Jesus for your forgiveness without you this life would be meaningless & void!

& last but not least, thank you for putting up with my being MIA these last few weeks!! Iat seems I've developed carpel tunnel & both my wrists are in braces :( Working is tough & typing is tougher (boohoo)! Seeing the brighter side ...I've learned to slow down (even if by force...lol), learned to be more patient with myself & have a much greater sympathy for those that really hurt & are in need! I am soo grateful for the opportunity to do what I love & am fortunate enough to be able to slow down when need be.

Lots more to come ( I popped some earrings in there too!) but the trick part of this whole game of life is balancing work & play...namely The Boy!! We managed to sneak in a trip to a Halloween party & a bit of Trick or Treating in this weekend :) The first party I ended up going as The Boys victim & I dressed up as Thee Good Girl for Halloween (mostly because I was too tired to redo all my face paint after the day of jewelry making!)!

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

I spent Saturday sandwiched between my dear friends Sonya of Metamorphosis Metals & Susan ("Boo") of Bijou Savvy at the Cooke St. Carnvial. We had more fun than should be allowed (especially since we had quite the cooler of goodies!)! I can't believe I get paid to hang out with my friends, listen to bands all day & meet my customers! :)

Best customer quote of the day..."you have the perfect balance of gaudy & good!" lol...pretty sure this was meant as a compliment as she was drooling over this piece!

(jobs that is...hehehe)

If I've been absent lately (which I know I have!! How is it Oct.7th already!?!) it's because I am juggling several jobs including the whole full time single mom gig & apparently the blog is last in line for my time. Trying to plan my schedule better so I don't leave this behind!

A plus to all this juggling... I have been much more constructive & creative with my time! Always the multi-tasker (must be the former retail manager in me!) I'm accomplishing much more in my day than I was before the extra jobs!

I had the pleasure of meeting Melissa Lowery
the amazing talent behind ssd jewelry
at last Sundays bazaarSPARK market!

I was walking by the booth she shared with her gal pal jewelry designer Tiffany Coley (we'll get to her in a sec.!) & was stopped dead in my tracks by not just her gorgeous etched metal jewelry but her display!

A fellow good girl with vintagey props,
I decided I had to meet her!!

I love how she repurposes the vintage coffee tins!!!

They are my fave... mmmm...right after this one!

She was super sweet & Tiffany Coley was the perfect mate to balance out the tent! Tiffany is a genius at enameling & her rings seemed to have a rainbow bursting from them!

I love love loved her fortune cookie necklaces with the fortunes hammered into little scrolls!

Love is for the lucky and the brave is my favorite
...it's is the story of my life {le sigh}

Good Girls Got Props

Hello Wednesday my lovely birds!

Did I mention how last week while I was getting ready for the fashion show I was also busy making new props for the bazaar that weekend? (as if I had nothing better to do ...hahaha)

I remember showing you the earring display but check out my necklace & ring display! It is a vintage drawer from the rehab we did on my mothers kitchen last year! Love love love the '60's contact paper! I just added a few carpet tacks from which to hang necklaces, hot glued down some vintage wooden spools for the rings & voila!

I can't believe it's over! The fashion show was such a smashing success! I want to thank Blo salon for doing such an awesome job with the hair & makeup for my girls. They really understood my vision behind this collection...Think Amy Winehouse minus the crack head...lol!

The Vision: I knew this line had to be over the top & when I thought BIG I thought pearls & with pearls came thoughts of Divas. Since my jewelry is literally rehabbed vintage I thought Diva Rehab was fitting! & since we had Rehab in the Collection name....well...you can tell where this went right !?!

Yep...My girls went to Rehab :) Pearl "Martinis" in hand, smokes in their hair, smudged eye makeup & a diva attitude! My models rock {love love love them}!!!

The last Diva did manage to make to make it out of Rehab if you can't tell by how angelic she looks & all the crosses she's adorned with ;)

I am really soo happy with how everything turned out & how fantastic the show went! Thank you soo much to all the volunteers who put this show together & huge "THANK YOU" to Katie Little for making this all happen!

fashionSPARK Night Out

This year fashionSPARK has partnered with

students at The Art Inst. of Raleigh-Durham!

The students each put together a presentation on a designer for this years fashion show & there is a gallery exhibit this Thursday night as a kick-off to the fashion show!

I had the pleasure of working w/Kendra, who you will get to meet if you make it the show or the bazaar this weekend! She was very instrumental in getting my booty in gear & making this collection happen! Thank you Kendra :)

If you come out to the bazaar not only will you get to see & try-on the straight off the runway collection !!! But you will also get to play with my new belt/brooch/necklace collection (which is still awaiting it's proper name btw!)!!

I'm pretty excited about the way it turned out! I sewed up a little base {felt + my prom dress :)} for the brooches so you don't have to pin them one by one.

You can (obviously) take them off & wear them individually
or even put them on a chain for a smaller dainty necklace :)

I am in love with them (can you tell!?!)!

& being the poor starving artist that I am

I decided to make myself one!

& can't seem to stop myself from making them
so into the shop they will go soon enough :)

Each piece is an individual brooch so you can cluster them
on ribbon or a scarf & wear as a belt.
(like as pictured)

Are you birds having a productive week? I was a Hot Mess yesterday after my meeting w/Margo so it was very appropriate & fitting that I made several Tangled Mess bracelets last night ...lol!

Sorry I've been quite the sporadic blogger this summer! I promise to be a good girl (haha) & get back to my regular scheduled blogging :)

Well my birds I must run! I'm off for a fitting with Margo of Rocket Betty who is hopefully making me a fabulous dress to wear to the fashion show! {squeal} I cannot wait to see what she comes up with. I'm bringing my camera with me so I should be back with some fun studio shots from her place :)

Oh & before I forget, some of you have been asking about the convertible charm necklace/bracelets since they all got shipped off to a wholesale order. There is a new one in the shop * NOW* (as of 10 min. ago) that converts into 3 bracelets!!

A Not So Rocky Start

Last week pretty much kicked my butt mentally & physically!!

Time for Part No1 of the trip recap!!!

**Fashion show recap**

The State of Art fashion show was soo much fun! I got to accessorize my high school friend Vivian Fisk's eco-friendly clothing line Higher Ground Creations! There was a gallery full of amazing artwork, bodies being painted (ohh soo scandalous! hehehe) & bands playing, as well as other artist selling their wares. It was in the oldest cigar district in Tampa; Ybor city @ the Roosevelt Building which is being renovated in the hopes of being an entirely "green" building! Very very cool!

Good morning my birds! I've been having trouble sleeping lately which makes for a not so good Good Girl! Before heading to bed last night I sent up a quick prayer for rest & laid my head down.

Last night....ohhhh last night... I slept !!! Long uninterrupted dreams & when I woke up the sun was shining & all was right with the world again!

I have soo much energy & designs are floating through my head! The possibilities are endless today & I'm popping into the studio hours before I've even been getting out of bed this week :)

Happy Tuesday my lovelies! I'm feeling very lethargic this week, I think it may have something to do with trying to keep up with my Niece this weekend ;)

Highlights from our Girls Night:
I {heart} her!!

mmm...blueberry banana muffins! I'd share the recipe but I can't follow directions very well & combined about 3 different recipes depending on what ingredients I had on hand & then kept adding dashes of uncalled for spices ;) They were delish!!

We played Dress Up for hours!!

How in the world did it get to be Friday??

This week/month/summer is getting away from me! Remember this little blurb about how I had a secret & couldn't share it yet??? Well, I totally forgot all about it!!! This summer heat has been draining my brain apparently! Sooo...without further ado

.....I got accepted into the fashionSPARK fashion show this year as a designer! Whooohooo!

You might recall (from here) that last fall I participated by accessorizing Jamie Powell's amazing clothing line Revamp! This year however I am so honored to be on my own, similar to the reDress fashion show I was just in. I will have my own models & be dressing them & designing over the top couture baubles for them to wear!

The collection for this fashion show will be called Diva Rehab...because every diva needs a little rehabilitation, in the form of vintage jewelry of course ;)

Think larger than life chain bib necklaces that pretty much double as tops & an overload of costume pearl goodness! {squeal} I'm super excited about this & nervous as all get out at the same time! {yikes} The fashion show will be the kickoff for the Triangle Fashion Week which is new this year. If you're in Raleigh save the date...September 17th! The 18th I'll be selling the fresh off the runway looks at bazaarSPARK so come on out!

Sometimes if you want to hold on

I've been hoarding these bits of baubles for quite awhile!
(some of them for years! shhhhhh don't tell!)

I was afraid to use them because
then they'd be gone....
Until today...

I was finally able to let go...

Piece by piece,
letting them take turns in the spotlight
& now I can breathe again
Deep sighs of relief

Holding them in my hand
the weight of them as they drip down my wrist

They now hold their own
amongst the other salvaged bits of yesteryear.

Dear AC,
Thank you so much for breaking today when it is upwards of 100 degrees outside! I'm grateful to realize that as much as I thought I was born in the wrong era (& really should have been birthed in Victorian times), I would have never actually survived without air conditioning. I'd have been swooning with heat stroke & fainting into the outstretched arms of handsome gentleman callers, being fanned & fed peeled grapes while the maidservant brought me chilled wine.......

Oh dear... I must be delusional from heat exhaustion!

The Boy & I skipped out of town with my family for a week but we're finally back, burnt to a crisp, but back :)

I am an SPF70 girl but even then...
